Slap bass tone: Just about everyone knows how slap bass is supposed to sound, so what do you do when you just can’t recreate that sound?
Maybe you’ve tried to play some slap bass lines, but the sound just wasn’t quite right…
Maybe you were missing that super crisp attack…
Or maybe when you try to slap, it just turns into a muddy nightmare.
Maybe you spend hours fiddling with the tone knobs on your amp, but no matter what you try, it never sounds the way it’s supposed to.
Well today, I want to help you fix all of your slap bass tone woes.
In my experience, there are 4 main things that suck the life out of a solid slap bass sound. I call them the 4 Horsemen of the Slap Bass Tone Apocalypse. Fix just these 4 things and you can enjoy a lifetime of hard-hitting, super-phat, earth-rumbling slap bass tone.
The best part is that 3 out of the 4 most common tone issues when it comes to slap can be fixed in less than an hour without changing anything about what you do as a bass player.

You shouldn’t need to change your bass to get a great slap bass tone (unless you’re using a fretless or something like that). In fact, the best bassists can usually get a decent slap bass tone out of any instrument that they’re using.
It’s just easier when you’ve taken care of these 4 things.
