About a year ago, I put out a lesson all about 5 beginner bass lines that got a huge response. Seriously – it’s the most watched video on the Become A Bassist YouTube channel so far.
Lots of people loved it, but some were expecting some bass lines that weren’t in the video. One year later, it’s time for the beginner bass lines sequel!
In this video, we’ll be going through some of the most requested and talked about beginner bass lines that weren’t in the last video.
They’re still the kind of bass lines that you can play and be instantly recognized. If you’ve ever had someone say, “Play something for me”, then you know exactly what I mean…
So add these songs to your arsenal, and save them for when you want to look like a bit of a badass.
Some of these bass lines are actually a little bit trickier than the ones in the original video, but they’re still very beginner friendly. Plus, with the tabs and tracks to play along with, you won’t have any trouble nailing these songs at all.

As always, you can download the tabs and notation by filling out the form above. You can practice them in your own time and at your own pace.
I mentioned a couple of extra resources for you in the video. Firstly, here is the ‘super loop’ of the Gorillaz song, but taken up a half-step. This is so you can still play the bass line without having to detune your bass:
Plus, here is the ‘raised’ version of Longview so you don’t have to detune your bass for that one either:
Green Day – Longview (Standard Tuning)
And of course, here are the links to the songs if you want to play along with them:
Queen And David Bowie – Under Pressure
Good luck with the lesson and happy playing!
Cheers,

Hey Luke,
I am brand new to the bass and I think if I can get my fingers to move seperately of each other I will be able to pick it up easily. I’ve always wanted to learn to play after years as a lead singer and sometimes drummer. I’m 53 and today I finally get to start. I like your strait forward approach and the song choices are great. My son is learning the electric guitar and Seven Nation Army was both of our first choice to try to learn. Thanks and rock on!

Thank you for the great videos. We’ve sent a lot of beginners to your YouTube channel and always received great feedback. You’re helping more people than you can imagine . . . worldwide. Great job Luke!

Hi Luke really enjoy your lessons, but tried to enter a couple of my emails so I could download the tabs but neither of them are recognised. Regards John

Hey John – Check the ‘Junk’ or ‘Spam’ folders in your email address. The confirmation email sometimes gets sent there, even though you requested it. Just move that email to your inbox, click the green button in there and everything should be good to go.

Hi Luke,
How about moving to beginner/intermediate bass lines. I would like to see the Zac Brown… ‘Where the Boat Leaves From”. It’s a killer bass line and doesn’t seem to be too difficult.
Thanks,
Eric
