Beginner bass lines – the 3rd edition is here! It’s always good to have songs in your arsenal that you can pull out when someone says: “Play something for me”.
Two of the most popular videos on the BAB YouTube channel and the website itself are ones that offer exactly that – songs and bass lines that are so strong and so memorable you can play just the bass line and it’ll make you look like a badass.
And that’s even when the bass line is really simple to play.
So today, I’m releasing the 3rd installment of my Beginner Bass Lines – Guaranteed To Impress series.
There are always tons of comments and emails from people asking me to show them beginner songs, so I scoured my emails and comments and found the most popular requests and put them into this video.
Check out the lesson here:

When I made the first video in this series, I never really expected it would be quite as popular as it turned out, so if you have beginner songs that you think would fit the bill, let me know in the comments below. (But no – Primus bass lines do NOT fit the bill)
Good luck with the lesson and happy playing!
Cheers,

Hey Luke… Been watching some of your bass videos recently and felt like I should send you a quick thank you for making your material available for those of us who would like to pay for a subscription but, are unable to do so. There are only 3 or 4 guys I regularly watch on YT and here’s why I watch… (I’ll make it quick)….
I have been playing bass for 35 years beginning in jazz band when my teacher handed me a bass and told me to come out of the practice room when I could play it.
The problem was that instead of putting my nose in a book I spent nearly all my time tapping out crazy rhythms on a tapmaster while trying to figure out how those guys made that awesome slap bass sound.
At the time, that was my goal and for the next 35 years I would never take or view a formal bass guitar lesson which, you can probably guess, caused some problems. One of my biggest issues is that I have short little fingers and can’t make the stretch that some of you guys can make so I had to learn ways to adapt which taught me how to play incorrectly.
However, I feel like I’m an 8 year old kid that’s in a full grown man’s body and I’m waiting to grow into it. I have the body now I just need for it to grow. I am surprised however to find that a lot of the slap bass techniques I learned correctly and how that happened I don’t know. So here I am looking for instructional videos to help reprogram myself. I can’t get out of I, IV, & V and it’s getting frustrating.
you do a great job and I like how you don’t talk over people’s heads. I was a former music major and know music fairly well I just don’t know where to put my fingers in the appropriate place I know the notes on my fretboard and I know some scales I just don’t know how to put it all together. Thanks again for the time that you put into your videos. The quality of material and how it’s covered is, in my opinion, is “elite” on YT and they show that you do care and that you do take the time to make a quality video and I’m sure I speak on behalf of others who watch them. Good job my friend! You are worthy of millions of subscribers. The show-off’s are fun to watch but discouraging as well. Why not watch something you can learn from rather than watch someone else show you (not teach you) what they have learned? Take care!!
Mike

Hey Mike – thanks so much for sharing your story. I really appreciate it – and I’m glad you’re finding the lessons useful. That’s always my goal with every single one.

Luke, I love your content. I have been trying for over 10 minutes to figure out how to send you some $$ to thank you for all the free stuff, but I don’t know how. Tell me? All the best to you and yours for the holidays.

I can’t even find you on Patreon. You’re missing some opportunity here bro.
Luke McIntosh says
I did seriously consider starting a Patreon, but I decided against it for a number of reasons. If you’re really that keen to get some money sent my way though, you can download my album here: https://lukemcintosh.bandcamp.com/ It’s a name-your-price model, so feel free to put in some money or just download it for free and enjoy!
