In 2023, we got the FINAL Beatles song…
Now And Then; a song resurrected from a decades-old recording of John Lennon singing and playing piano.
But getting one final Beatles song also means we get one final Beatles bass line.
And as you can expect from Paul McCartney this one is utter genius.
However, it’s not just genius because of what he plays, the notes he uses, the rhythms he chooses…
The real reason the Now And Then bass line is so good goes WAY beyond any of those things.
And in this video, we’re going to look at what they are and what makes this bass line so special.

By the way, I am heavily biased when it comes to any and all things Beatles-related. After all, the very first thing I learned to play on bass was Paul McCartney’s masterpiece bass line, Come Together.
But of course, not everyone will agree with me when I say this is a great bass line.
However, I would strongly suggest you download the tabs and notation of this bass line, and even if you don’t learn to play it note-for-note, just follow along with what Paul is playing.
Listen to how the bass line interacts with the vocal line, and then later, the slide guitar solo.
To me, Paul’s choices are so typically Beatles-ey, and it puts a great big smile on my face.
Like I mention in the video, I’m really glad this final Beatles bass line exists, and hopefully you can appreciate it as well.
Good luck with the bass line and happy playing!
Cheers,
