Over the last few weeks, we’ve been talking about all the things that make a great bassline, different ways of creating basslines, formulas that you can apply directly to bass lines… The list goes on.
Now though, I want to show you how it can all come together to create an entire bassline from scratch.
I’ll walk you through the exact process you can use whenever you’re creating a bassline for yourself. Plus, you’ll see all the questions I’m asking of myself to make sure the bassline I’m making is actually serving the song.
I’m really excited about sharing this one with you. I’m sure you’re going to love it.

FREE: Get The Bass Lines From Scratch Checklist
Use this quick quiz to 'test' your own bass lines to make sure they're world-class. If not, the checklist will show you exactly what you need to do to improve it so your bass lines are as good as they could possibly be.
You'll also get all the tabs, notation and practice tracks from the entire Bass Lines From Scratch Series.
Like I say in the video, this kind of situation is kind of artificial. In this case, the bass part was already there and I’ve come into a complete track and starting from nothing.
The real world doesn’t usually operate like this though. The band that recorded this song probably had rehearsals at some point and got production notes from the artist or the producer which would have influenced what they did.
In this case, we didn’t have any of that, but we did have the benefit of a complete song to work from. That being said, this situation isn’t unheard of. I’ve been called into studios at the last minute to play bass on tracks and albums that are just about finished.
The difference here is that there is nobody providing any guidance or suggestions from a control room. In some ways, it’s more fun like that! You can do whatever you like!
Make sure you grab your copy of the Basslines From Scratch Checklist. You’ll get the ‘playbook’ for how I approached creating the bassline in this video. It also comes with all the tabs, notation and practice tracks from all the Basslines From Scratch Lessons.
To get it, just fill out the form above and I’ll send it straight to you – 100% free.
Of course, if you have any questions about anything bass-related, let me know in the comments. I’m always happy to help out however I can.
Thanks so much for sticking with me throughout this series! It’s been a ton of fun for me, and I hope you’ve learned something along the way as well.
Good luck with the lesson and happy bassline making!
Cheers,

I face having to make up a bass line on the fly at the Country Music Club. Quite often we get a walkup singing a song I don’t know.
I find it quite challenging but usually pick the groove by the the third bar.
